Middle-Aged Man Falls from 4th Floor of Surabaya’s Tunjungan Plaza, Shocking Visitors

A shocking incident occurred at Tunjungan Plaza (TP) 4 in Surabaya on Friday morning (June 27, 2025), when a middle-aged man reportedly fell from the fourth floor to the ground level of the shopping mall. The incident, which happened around 10:20 AM WIB near the Sport Station area, caused panic among visitors and store staff nearby.

According to Yusuf, a listener of Radio Suara Surabaya who was at the scene, the incident appeared to be a suicide attempt. Yusuf said the victim was alone before suddenly jumping from the fourth floor. "It looked like suicide, at TP 4, fourth floor. He jumped from the fourth floor," Yusuf reported to Radio Suara Surabaya.

Shortly after the incident, mall security quickly cordoned off the area and covered the victim with a temporary tent to prevent crowds from gathering. As of now, the victim’s condition remains unclear, and it is unknown whether he survived the fall or died at the scene.

Another witness and listener of Radio Suara Surabaya, Ratri Anugrah, stated that security officers immediately covered the victim after the incident. "We don't yet know why he fell. The area is being covered by security," Ratri said.

Meanwhile, Tunjungan Plaza Operational Manager Rizal Renaldy confirmed that the mall had sterilized the area and was coordinating with local police from Tegalsari Sector Police for further investigation. Rizal assured that the safety and security of visitors remain their top priority. "Good afternoon, we are still sterilizing the area. We are waiting for officers from Tegalsari Police. I have coordinated with the Police Chief. Thank you," Rizal said.

The incident quickly gained attention across Surabaya, especially on social media, where users shared updates and videos from the scene. Authorities have yet to release detailed information about the cause of the fall.

Police continue to gather witness statements and review CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events. The public is urged not to speculate and to wait for official statements to avoid spreading unverified information.

Such incidents have occurred in large shopping malls before, prompting mall management to remind visitors to be mindful of their safety, especially in multi-level buildings.
