Fatal Collision at Degung Intersection Sukabumi, Motorcyclist Dies After Being Hit by a Car

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, around 1:00 AM WIB, a tragic traffic accident occurred at the Degung Intersection in Sukabumi, specifically on Jl. Raya Sudirman, Benteng Village, Warudoyong District, Sukabumi City. The collision involved two vehicles: a Nissan Grand Livina minibus with registration number F 1293 MO, driven by Sdr. KR, and a Honda Beat motorcycle with registration number F 5799 TAE, ridden by Sdr. LH.

According to reports, the incident began when the minibus was traveling along the main road with two passengers, Sdr. TN and JF. At the same time, the motorcycle, ridden by Sdr. LH and carrying a passenger, Sdri. SN, was passing through the busy intersection. The two vehicles collided violently at the red light intersection, which is known for its heavy traffic.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles were heavily damaged. The Honda Beat motorcycle, ridden by Sdr. LH, was severely damaged at the front, while the Nissan Grand Livina minibus also suffered significant damage at the front due to the strong impact. The motorcyclist, Sdr. LH, sustained minor injuries and was quickly taken to RS Islam Assyifa Sukabumi City for medical treatment. Unfortunately, his passenger, Sdri. SN, tragically passed away despite receiving intensive care at the hospital.

The police, upon receiving the report, immediately arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The Sukabumi City Traffic Police Unit collected testimonies from witnesses around the location and reviewed CCTV footage from the intersection to gain a clearer understanding of the accident's chronology. In addition, the police secured evidence from the scene to aid in the investigation.

Kapolsek Warudoyong, AKP Agung, stated that the collision was likely caused by a lack of awareness from one of the drivers at the busy intersection. "We suspect that this accident happened due to negligence of one of the drivers who failed to follow traffic rules at the intersection. We are continuing to gather evidence to determine the exact cause of the incident," explained AKP Agung.

Meanwhile, local residents and other road users expressed their concern over the incident. Many of them voiced their concern and urged the authorities to pay more attention to the Degung intersection, which has been known to be a hotspot for accidents. "This intersection is often a bottleneck, and traffic violations are common. We hope the authorities will give more attention to prevent such incidents in the future," said a resident living near the location.

As a follow-up, the Sukabumi City Traffic Police Unit is urging all road users to be cautious while driving, especially at busy intersections. Compliance with traffic regulations is crucial to prevent accidents that can cost lives. "Safety is the top priority, not speed. We ask all road users to be more disciplined, careful, and always adhere to traffic signs for everyone's safety," emphasized the Head of Sukabumi City Traffic Police Unit, AKP Widodo.
