Two Men Killed After Allegedly Struck by Lightning in Karawang While Riding Motorbike
A tragic incident occurred in Dusun Jaya Sari Barat, Sedari Village, Cibuaya District, Karawang Regency, on Saturday evening (10/5), when two men, who were reportedly brothers, were found dead after allegedly being struck by lightning. The incident took place around 18:10 WIB while they were riding a motorcycle across a fish pond area in the region. Local witnesses reported heavy rain and strong lightning in the area at the time of the incident.
The two men, who were in their 30s, were riding their motorcycle when the lightning struck. Witnesses claimed they saw the men fall off their motorcycle after being struck, with the lightning presumably causing their immediate death. Residents who witnessed the event quickly alerted the authorities, who then arrived at the scene to conduct further investigations.
Cibuaya Police Chief, AKP Yana, confirmed that the two victims were found dead at the scene. "We suspect that they died due to being struck by lightning, although an autopsy will provide further confirmation," said AKP Yana. Officers also found signs of lightning impact near the location, which supported the assumption that the lightning strike was the cause of the men's deaths.
Authorities have reminded the public of the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain and lightning, especially in open areas like fish ponds. They advised people to exercise caution while traveling outdoors during adverse weather conditions and avoid open spaces that are susceptible to lightning strikes.
Meanwhile, the victims' family, who received the heartbreaking news, appeared devastated and began preparing for the funeral. They hoped that this tragic incident would serve as a reminder for others to be more aware of the dangers posed by nature's forces, which can strike unexpectedly. Several local residents expressed their sympathy for the accident, especially since it occurred at such an unpredictable time.
