Tragic Accident in Driyorejo, Gresik: Drunk Truck Driver Causes Fatal Collision

A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, around 3:30 PM WIB on Raya Driyorejo, Gresik, when a drunken truck driver caused a fatal collision. The accident resulted in one fatality and serious injuries to another individual after a reckless truck plowed through multiple vehicles.
Ipda Aang, Head of the Traffic Unit at Driyorejo Police Station, confirmed that the truck involved was driven by Leonarus Nainoe, a 24-year-old resident of Timor Tengah Utara, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. According to Aang, the truck was traveling at high speed from the west (Raya Semambung) toward the east (Raya Driyorejo/Cangkir).
The first collision occurred in front of Masjid Al Muttaqin on Raya Driyorejo, when the truck struck two motorcycles. The motorcycles were a Honda L 5059 GH, ridden by Suhardi (50) from Wringinanom, Gresik, and a Honda Beat S 4025 OAM, ridden by Eti Dwi Ningtyas (28) from Prambon, Sidoarjo. Despite the collisions, the truck did not stop and continued driving at high speed.
The truck then struck another motorcycle, a Honda GL 150 (license plate AG 3887 GU), ridden by Adin Tri Kuncoro (31) from Papar, Kediri, in front of PT Wing Surya on Jalan Driyorejo. It was only after this that the truck finally collided with a Fuso truck (license plate DK 8488 VF) traveling in the opposite direction, causing the incident to come to a halt.
Footage from a CCTV camera, provided by Abdur Rochim, Secretary of Driyorejo, shows the reckless behavior of the truck. The Fuso truck had stopped after seeing the tronton truck driving erratically. Despite trying to avoid the collision, the high speed of the tronton truck made the crash inevitable. The tronton truck swerved to the right, hitting the left side of the Fuso truck, as well as utility poles and nearby structures, before finally coming to a stop.
As a result of the accident, Suhardi tragically lost his life at the scene. Eti sustained severe injuries, including fractures to five toes on her left foot, while Adin suffered minor abrasions. All victims were immediately rushed to RS Anwar Medika in Sidoarjo for medical treatment.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion in the area, and the police continued evacuation and investigation efforts. Aang stated that Leonarus, in his intoxicated state, had forced himself to drive the truck, which led to his inability to control the vehicle’s lane properly.
Material losses due to the accident are estimated to be around Rp 20 million. The police are continuing to investigate the incident and urge the public to exercise caution while driving, especially when under the influence of alcohol.
